Adulthood & Reconciliation
music: "Turkish Dance" by the Spiel Klezmer Band
Still reading The Hero With a Thousand Faces (Joseph Campbell), and I find myself going back and re-reading sections that I missed or was lost on. There's something about this book that requires a read, then a re-read...the first time around, there were aspects that I am only now slowly struggling to absorb in their subtlety. (Although I feel, refreshingly, like a first year student, there's a freshness to it that is hard to place.) I marked this passage down as I was reading further, then came back to it:

Bluebonnets, Change, and the Void
Last week my husband brought home wildflowers. One, a rose verbena, the jagged corm of leaves topped with a circular crown of purple flowers, the other a blue bonnet, a tall, graceful flower with many tiny blue blossoms, throated like a snap dragon in miniature, tipped in bright white. The atmosphere in the mornings is always humid, particularly in the spring, when the mornings are cool and sleepy, the days burning bright, white-hot, reducing soil to sand, eroding at everything it touches.
This morning was quiet. Leaving Fortuna asleep, I climbed from our shared bed, clumsily tugged my ragged blue jeans (my favorite pair) over my hips, then crept outside to sit on the front porch, to loiter with the stray cats and observe the violet dawn. No...
